hCG (Human chorionic gonadotropin) and the hCG Diet
Cornerstone Health and Family Practice offers hCH and the “HCG Diet” as one of our successful methods of losing and maintaining a healthy weight. The HCG diet is a very low calorie diet and is not for everyone. When appropriate, medications or other diets may be more appropriate for a given patient. HCG works by adding a naturally occurring hormone (hCG) and pairing it with a strict low calorie diet that begins to rapidly burn fat in the areas normally difficult to lose weight in, including the thighs, abdomen, hips, arms, back and under the chin. The advantage is that very little muscle is lost.
The hCG Diet also will help reduce your appetite as it burns fat away. hCG is naturally produced in the body and is viewed to be a very safe medication to be used mainly for fertility, and other hormonal issues.
Dr. Platt has been treating patients using HCG for weight loss since 2005 and is one of the first doctors to do so here in Tucson. While HCG is a small part of his his practice, he is passionate about its remarkable ability to help people lose weight quickly and do so with good energy levels through the fat metabolizing properties of HCG. Dr. Platt models the HCG diet very closely to the original protocol from Dr. Simeon who first discovered the unique fat metabolizing properties of HCG. Injectable HCG is the treatment of choice and oral drops are not used in our clinic.
Like every other treatment that is out there, the hCG Diet may not be the best choice for you. However is does remain an option if it is the proper choice for your individual situation. Please feel free to contact us today to learn more and we would be happy to help.
The Best Natural Way to Shed a Few Pounds
We’re big fans of keeping solutions simple if possible. If you are looking to shed a few pounds, the answer isn’t a medical solution at all but instead just some simple ways everyone can apply to lose a few pounds and be healthier. If you’re goal is to lose some extra weight, there are three simple things you can do right now:
- Do not eat within three hours of going to bed. Fuel is not needed when your engine is lowered to idle and excess calories just get converted to fat.
- Drink 8oz of cold water before every meal. Your stomach is only so big. Filling part of its volume with healthy water before eating will decrease your hunger and limit how much food you can eat in order to feel full.
- Stop drinking soda or change to diet soda if you are an avid soda drinker. A 12oz can of coke has 140 calories. 32oz of coke has 373 calories.
Applying these basic steps to your life will actually provide real results. Obviously a large component to any health change is regular exercise, but if you find it challenging to fit it in or to make too many drastic life changes, you can first apply these basic principles and then add more as you progress.

Frequently Asked Questions
I hardly eat anything. Why do I keep gaining weight?
Metabolism and genetics. Two people can, of course, eat the exact same diet. One will lose weight and the other will gain weight. But not a single person walked out of the concentration camps of WW2 obese. In fact, those people prone to obesity had a greater chance of survival on starvation rations.
How do I change my metabolism?
If you are starving yourself and then eating one large meal a day – stop! Eating small healthy meals and snacks 4 to 5 times daily will increase your metabolism.
Your metabolism is like the idle of your car and the size of it’s engine. Exercise and small frequent meals can increase your metabolism (how fast your engine is idling) and muscle mass can increase the size of your engine and need for more fuel (calories).
Can medication increase my metabolism and help me lose weight?
Medications like phentermine are appropriate at times to help people lose weight and can help curb appetite while artificially increasing metabolism.
What is the best diet?
Dr. Platt still considers “Body for Life” the best way to lose weight using very healthy principles of diet and exercise. Weight watchers, nutri-systems and Jenny Craig are all effective programs and I recommend them.
What is HCG and how does it work?
HCG (human chorianic gonadotropin) is the hormone present during pregnancy. Injectable HCG is the most studied and controlled way of getting HCG to the blood stream. HCG helps metabolize fat from the body and optimize metabolism while on a very low calorie diet. The majority of patients maintain good energy levels while eating only 500 calories per day. The HCG diet is not easy but a very safe and effective way of losing weight rapidly.
What do you think about bariatric surgery?
Bariatric surgery should be the last option tried for weight loss and is only for the very obese with significant health problems or at high risk for future medical problems. It is very effective but not without significant risks.
Is the Adkins diet safe?
The Adkins diet is safe but not a healthy diet. It is very effective but again should be used only after other measures have failed. Patients at risk due to obesity would benefit from the weight loss from this diet versus the somewhat radical protein and fat emphasized Adkins program.
